To our dear friends, partners, clients and members of our communities
It is with pride, joy, excitement and a strong sense of purpose that we launch our new business, equitas insight on this especially chosen date.
Today we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s Day of Service, an occasion honoring his life, achievements and legacy, his fight for human rights and an end to racial segregation. He was instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed discrimination in public accommodations, facilities, and employment, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
We don’t believe there is anyone who hasn’t been inspired by his “I Have a Dream,” address at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963:
‘I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’
Much progress has been made in the near 60 years since that day, but the facts and statistics are evidence of the need for all of us to work harder to make that dream come true:
There are just four black CEOs of Fortune 500 companies
20% of black women say they have been mistaken for someone at a lower level
Almost half (46%) of LGBTQ workers in the US are closeted in the workplace
Not us! We know we cannot fix all the wrongs around us and single handedly create a new, fairer world. But we can (and do) have our very own dream. We have been fortunate to work with some of the best organizations in the world. We have driven change and positive transformation. We have experience and the power of science on our side. And we have purpose. We are determined to make a difference, one step at a time. We are willing to put our experience and expertise at the service of our partners and clients so we all can advance together towards fairer, more equitable working lives.
As we launch equitas insight today, the symbolism of today’s date will serve as our source of energy and inspiration for the road ahead.
